Top 3 Reasons I Can't Get Into Artificial Intelligence (AI) As A Copywriter

Yes, by now I'm sure we have all heard of AI, Artificial Intelligence. And you may or may not have formed an opinion about it.

Mine? Honestly, not the biggest fan.

Now, I want to preface by saying, there are many forms of AI technology that I use and love. I have Grammarly and I am a big fan of automations in a business, especially online businesses.

AI can be a great tool for your workflows, especially if you're a one-person show, like me.

Part of my job is literally to set up these automations for my clients. I mean being able to schedule an email to a list of 10k people to go out at a time when you don't want to be awake and sending individual emails which would take all day, is a heaven-sent thing.

But, I do not love everything about AI, especially in the context of writing; copywriting, blog writing, content creation, etc.

In my opinion, there is no substitute for the actual human mind - and sure, I know that makes me sound so much older than I am but here we are.

When I'm on social media I don't want to be chatting with a Bot, I want to be chatting with a real person, I don't want to scroll my feed and see cookie-cutter content that's just blah, I don't want to see the same graphic or reel over and over.

I don't want to go and try to learn about a subject and see all these blog posts written by AI that aren't interesting and just recite a lot of the same info.

I've always been fascinated by the human mind. I went so far as to study it in university...

And while AI can be a great tool to help you out I do not think it should be a replacement. The human mind is a deeply complex, intricate and unique entity. It's something that every human has but not one is the same.

Even two people with identical DNA will have an entirely different brain, different thoughts, different ideas and be quite unique.

My top 3 reasons I'm not on board with AI:

1. It takes away jobs from real people

Maybe the most obvious one but it seems like nowadays people are more interested in buying a platform than buying from a person (and yes, I do know that someone had to create that program).

But with the recession and this crazy inflation real people, the small business people, are the people who need those jobs. These people have spent potentially years, money and resources to have the expertise they do just to be replaced by a robot?

I would rather invest my money in small businesses. Sure, I do invest in many platforms but there are just some things I wouldn't outsource to a robot.

2. I'm interested to know what people think

When I want to learn something I take to Google and Pinterest and look for blogs or posts, etc. I saw an ad recently for a blog writing AI program and it said that the program scans Google for related topics and compiles information from them to create a blog post. Now, I absolutely will use blog posts for extra information and cite them in my posts but doesn't that program sort of just sound like it's plagiarism?

Now, I've never seen it play out so I could be completely wrong about this but it doesn't feel right. Also, what happens if everyone switches over to writing blogs with AI? We would eventually run out of original content and the blog posts would end up just being the same.

You also would still have to invest your time into it because what if the AI program produced a piece of content that included something you actually didn't agree with? Sounds more like a headache than it would be to simply write it out yourself... Honestly, for the consumer I'd end up not actually learning from someone's expertise, so how would I know if they actually know their stuff? I use people's content (posts, blogs, podcasts, etc.) as a way of vetting if they're knowledgeable before I purchase their courses.

3. Creativity is something you can't fabricate

Something that is uniquely human is creativity. AI is focused on data, stats, results, systems and algorithms. It scans for trending keywords, trending topics, SEO. It's focused on getting results based on objective data.

But, creativity is subjective. So, AI falls short in the category of creativity.

People on the internet try to make cases for AI's creativity but it is just not something that can be replicated because higher mental thought and free will are required for creativity and that's not something you can (or would want to) replicate.

I think what will happen is everyone will jump on but then content consumers will quickly find that AI-created content doesn't pass the test because it's too boring. Everyone nowadays has short attention spans for social media and online content. If it doesn't grab their attention the moment they see it they'll probably scroll away.

Creativity is so important for any form of writing or copywriting, whether that be blog posts, websites, sales pages, etc.

Also, as a storytelling copywriter, I think our own personal stories are our greatest tool for connecting with others. Right now people are wanting real, genuine connection. Teaching our people through our own stories is such a powerful way to help our learners internalize the material and remember it.

If we spew out facts that's much harder to learn but examples are ways to help our learners be able to recall information later.

So, in this world of emerging AI, don't give up on humans. Still value real human work sometimes. People work hard.
